Description Lighthouse 2911 is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that for the past five years has provided tangible services to youth in a seven county area. We provide a large multi-faceted weekly program for at-risk juveniles currently dealing with juvenile justice issues, as well as multiple one day training programs dealing with teen and pre-teen issues. Many of the youth in our weekly PALS program are living below the federal poverty level.
ProgramsLighthouse 2911 offers different programs for youth in the Golden Crescent area. Our "PALS" program tangibly assists 10-17 year old youth at risk of or currently dealing with the juvenile justice system. Our "Be The Change" program provides an intense one day program for high school freshmen, dealing head on with teen issues like suicide, bullying, eating disorders, labeling, etc. Our "SafeDate" program provides an open discussion on teen dating issues from the perspective of both sexes, gives guidance on what is appropriate, excepted, and expected. "Beautiful You" addresses self-esteem issues for young ladies.

Equine Center

Equine Center
Hey everyone!!! Welcome to the Lighthouse 2911 Equine Center Blog. My name is Nicole Sanders, and I'd like to first off tell everyone what LH2911 is all about. We are a non-profit that helps disadvantaged youth in the Golden Crescent area and currently Peter Beard and I, are undergoing training to be able to assist special needs persons. Lighthouse's main goal is to help prepare youth for the real world.
At the moment we are in the process of trying to come up with funding for an equine center. This center will be designed to give programs to youth, such as relating how horse breaking (from the ground up) is similar to how a person feels as he/she is growing up. This center will also provide jobs to youth who are in need. Ultimately, once the equine center is up and running it will be self-sustaining. But as always, the trick is to get the funding(grants and donations) to buy the property and build. The hope is that by getting kids involved with the horses it may help keep them out of trouble, or give them some sort of goal to work towards.

Lighthouse 2911 is always taking donations, to help any one of our numerous programs. Donations are the back bone of non-profit organizations. Recently Buster Lindemann has donated a yearling to us. Her name is Forkos Gayrock Ann, but we just call her Annie for short. In part we will use this blog to keep everyone up to date with our training of her, and other yearlings, as well as to keep everyone posted on the equine center!

Annie, along with several other yearlings that Peter and I own, are well on their way to becoming great horses for the Lighthouse2911 Equine Center to utilize in it's programs. We also own a small string of older horses that are ready for their new jobs as ambassadors for Lighthouse. These horses are currently being used for lessons. Peter and I both have a love for horses that goes back many, many years. We would like nothing more than to share that love with others as well as to educate the general public on horses and what it takes to maintain one.

For more on Annie, our other horses, and progress with our equine center check back with us!!!!!
